Jeremy Ortman, LMHC, LPC, ClinIcal Director, he/him
With well over a decade of experience as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (NY) and Licensed Professional Counselor (NJ), I blend academic expertise with real-world understanding. My background includes teaching at Columbia University's Teachers College and NYU, as well as leading the Mental Health and Substance Abuse Counseling department at GMHC, the world’s first HIV/AIDS organization.
My style is interactive, practical, and infused with sensitivity and a sense of humor. I draw from multiple therapeutic traditions, including Psychodynamic Therapy, Attachment Theory, and Relational Psychotherapy, adapting my approach to fit your unique story and needs.
Learning about the way you attach, to yourself and to others, can guide our understanding of your particular issues. Acceptance, curiosity and compassion are cornerstones of healing. Tuning into your mind/body connection can lead us to achieve increased emotional regulation, lessen depression and anxiety, and better reduce your symptoms.
My commitment to professional development is reflected in my pursuits in mindfulness, personal narrative writing, and EMDR. I’m inspired by film, music, poetry, and pop culture and often utilize aspects of these and other art forms as reference points in my therapeutic work. I have extensive experience working with creative professionals, the LGBTQIA+ community, and stressed out New Yorkers of all kinds.
